My Opinion
The collective power of people to help each other in times of crisis is one of the best justifications for a government that is big enough to allow the job to get done.
The far right fringers will undoubtedly have a wooly fit in their drawers over this revelation but truth is truth and the truth needs to be told more often in this age that seems to be infiltrated more and more by right wing extreme myth-conceptions.
In times of tragedy like Hurricane Sandy politics takes a back seat to the importance of the bonds that hold us all together as a nation of people who care for people and puts to rest the mistaken impression – - – so often proposed by some of the myth-informed on the right wing – - -that smaller government is better government when it comes to meeting the needs of the People.
Big government is strong government and it is my opinion that strong government is needed when lives are shattered by common tragedies and strong government is the best instrument by which people can unite their resources to meet the challenges of cataclysmic events such as hurricanes, earthquakes and other terrors.
I am of the opinion that the often repeated Republican idea that people can fare better on their own without intervention or interference from big government simply does not work when the chips are really down – - – it has never been the American Way to allow those in need of help to struggle alone and I think it is anything but American to even suggest that people be left to cope with overwhelming challenges without help from their government.
What I am trying to convey through this blog post is said so much better by an article I have been reading from “Campaign For America’s Future” and to which I am linking here:
Big government is not always a big evil regardless of what some of the right wing activists would have us believe is it?
I think we need to think awfully carefully about the choices we will be making at the polls in November.
I think we will be facing a choice between a government that can grow and continue to help it’s People or one that is shrunk to incompetency by some who seem to be unaware of their own follies.
