Dreaming of the Himalayas & Kilimanjaro…

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Gloria Steinem

Dreaming of the Himalayas & Kilimanjaro… View of MT Everest on Himalayas Range

Lately, as I read/view distressing scenes from Japan and around the world, I realize that many areas I’d love to re-visit or visit are in turmoil. Nature’s fury is changing the global landscape; places we imagined, dreamt about visiting are changing. Part of us wishes to escape, hoping the tragedies were in our imagination; that they’d go away. They won’t. In between breaking news, updates, repeats, I let my mind wonder off to the mountains; perhaps, amidst the flora and fauna, answers will be found there above it all… Maybe? Maybe not? Sometimes the mountains come to us to share their secrets… giving us Hope.

Remember that popular hair product ad that went something like “Please don’t hate me because I’m beautiful…” Well, please don’t hate me because my imagination, seeking ways to pleasantly escape, dreaming up great work that takes me to the top of two great spots in the world and from where I can contemplate the sound of one hand clapping.

From there, away from the pain, I can commiserate with all the ongoing global events and find fresh air ways to help. I mean if we are going for the ultimate work experience, why settle for a building or the lame ass perfunctory confines of our home office. There is nothing wrong with those options but you must agree, they are well… so ordinary. The outdoors will trump, the indoors anytime; especially at a unique location. What do you wish to see in the world that you keep putting off? Why?

“It is above all by the imagination that we achieve perception and compassion and hope.” Ursula K. LeGuin

Okay, so logistically we won’t be able to access the full range of office related tools but remember this is an- imagine-it-all-and-see-it-manifest exercise. I have everything I need up on the mountains, wifi, hifi, sci-fi, all manner of fi, including the marine corps like training, semper fi. All this in prep for time atop a world with thin air…

In between creative and exhilarating work, solving strife in the world, trekking around the mountain range system, bathing in the Ganges, Yellow River, adapting to the terrain, turning to natural foods and beverages, saying daily prayer for world healing, doing yoga and meditation, I will pause, each time I come down the mountain range, to eat goat’s milk vanilla ice cream…
What are your thoughts? What would you like to see in the world that you have put off?

    • I love it. I think that you’re right on the money here. We need to be aware of what’s going on in the world, but we need to take a step back and get away from it all to find our own inner peace. Once refocused, we are more energized and can again tackle the problems of the world anew.

Personally, I’d just settle for a vacation from work to go anywhere, but I’d like it to be someplace warm. I’m ready for a bit of sun and springtime!

      Kind Regards,

    • I am ready for the warmer weather too… The dreary cold days and all that snow has left me wanting for color and heat. Like you, I’m ready. Thanks for commenting and do visit my blog sometime. Will stop to say hello at yours shortly. :-)
