From Potholes to Works of Art!

Drivers despise potholes, cursing each and every time their car hits one. Potholes never seem to get filled. So Steve Wheen decided to take matters in his own hands. As a guerrilla gardener, Steve started to fill these unsightly potholes with eye catching miniature gardens.

Steve uses a mix of live plants with props to create whimiscal scenes for passerbys to enjoy. He explains why he became a pothole gardener, “For me, it’s turning something crappy into something happy. It’s making people stop and think about the environment around them, and I hope also gets them to slow down.”

This London-born artist started pothole gardens as a hobby when he was in university and ever since then, he has travelled to major cities around the world to create these works of art.

I enjoy growing them, learning about them and I love creating bouquets of freshly cut flowers. In our climate where it’s winter most of the time the growing season is way to short, so I have started this blog to get my fix all winter! More Posts - Website
