Homeland Security Is Doing What?

OPINION

I happened onto an article from a blog I really like a lot that had a headline asking whether or not I had watched Fox News lately and then going into some detail about how Giraldo Rivera or somebody might have said something to suggest that Homeland Security may be trying to orchestrate a same-sex takeover within that agency.

I re-read that headline as I was sitting here at this keyboard and the words flooded into my head, “Hell no, I don’t ever watch Fox News and I really do not know who this Rivera Person is and the idea of Homeland Security trying to orchestrate a same sex takeover is just plain crap as far as I am concerned and who cares anyway?

But that is the way I think, folks – - – I often have knee jerk reactions to things and this was one of those times.  The importance of the question just didn’t strike me as being of that overwhelmingly important at the time I first read it.

I must admit, however, that it did pique my curiosity a bit.

Somehow the idea of television commentary about Homeland Security trying to make Homeland Security into a same sex outfit just doesn’t strike me as the most important issue facing America today and even if it is true, my question would be, “So what?”

Then I got to thinking harder about this and another thought occurred: “If Homeland Security were to actually become a same sex organization and if they were all women as the Fox discussion seems to indicate might happen, what would be wrong with that?  I am a man and I think I would rather be patted down in a security scan by a woman rather than another guy.  Of course that is just my own personal preference.

Then my thought processes spiraled to other heights and new questions came flooding in:

“What difference does it make to me personally whether the individual doing the electronic surveillance on me is a man or a woman?”

“If I suddenly were to become a suspected terrorist or something some sweet day, does it matter whether the SWAT Team that comes to haul me away is made up of males or females?  I don’t think I could see beneath those face mask helmet things they wear anyway – - – so how could I tell and what difference would it make?”

What kind of questions are these anyway and why would a major television outlet be worrying about all this kind of stuff in the middle of a critical election campaign?  Is it some kind of diversion or are they just trying to have a little fun and inject some relaxing subject matter into the national conversation to try and take some of the pressure off us in this really hotly-contested political contest  we find ourselves in?

When I finally punched some computer keys and brought up the article on “Talking Points Memo” where this discussion is further elaborated, I found out that the whole thing  seems to surround some kind of allegations that there might be a little sexual harassment going on over at Homeland Security.

At that point I reminded myself how I first felt when the factory where I worked before I retired instituted their “Sexual Harassment” Policy.

I argued against instituting such a policy because, as I pointedly said with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek, “Don’t do this!  Sexual Harassment is the only attention I ever get at my age!”

The article that was talking about Fox News and Homeland Security on “Talking Points Memo” went on to say that someone had alleged that Giraldo Rivera had mentioned something to the effect that all the women in top positions at the government agency in question might be lesbians or something.

I thought to myself, “Well so what if they might be?”

Of course I have no information of my own indicating that this might be true.

Does the orientation of employees actually have a positive or a negative effect on the mission and performance of some organization?

I asked myself, “Could this be some sort of a take off on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?”

Then it struck me, a lot of Righties seem to have this inborn tendency to go all paranoid and ape crap about Gay Issues.

I wondered, “Could that be what this is all about?  A dig at Gay people?”

At the end of the few minutes it took me to read these articles and to think about them, I finally concluded that none of it mattered even the slightest bit to me but it might be close to a life threatening issue to some Righties who do well to get the caps off their beer bottles or to keep their hunting hounds in line.

I am glad there is someone out there with the resources and the will power to fill the information gap in for people who have nothing better to worry about.

As for me and my house, we shall continue to get our news from other sources – - – which of course is not intended to say anything negative about the News Source under discussion here, but which represents my simple freedom of choice.

So, if you are interested in all this, you might want to start where I started which is by reading the following article from what I consider to be a really great blog, “The Last Of The Millenniums” under the following link:

and then you might want to go on over to “Talking Points Memo” and see what they have to say about it all and you can do that with this link here:

Now as for me, I am going to open up a cola drink and then take my afternoon nap because I am old and I need my beauty rest.

John Liming - The Liming Liberal Democrat

An American Man, born in 1938 and a Veteran of The U.S. Military. I served honorably in The United States Army (National Guard) and The United States Air Force for a total of seven years and three months active duty during what is now known as The Vietnam Era. My passion is political observation and commentary. My intention is to discuss and debate the extreme conservative ideology that is hurting The People of this Great Country. I will examine the reasons why our beloved America has become so politically divided over the past few years and provide illuminating insight into why I believe this is exactly the agenda of The "Christian" Conservative Right. Written in my own words of course, and strictly my opinion...
