Has the pursuit of power trumped every other consideration in the American Political Landscape? Can “Popular Democracy” still be a viable concept here?
Has the concept that might once have been labeled “Popular Democracy” been replaced by a struggle for one ideology or the other to exercise final and complete dominion over every facet of American Life?
If one studies the ravings and rantings coming forth from Contemporary Radical American Conservatism these days, there is no need to ask any further such questions. It seems to me that their idea is “Our Way Or The Highway.”
The good thing is that in the History of this nation, Democrats, Liberals and Progressives have been elected to government more often and for far longer periods of time than any shade of Conservatism. That is a statistical reality and cannot be spun.
What does this prove to me?
It proves to me that Democrat, Liberal and Progressive government is the government that America tends to prefer after all has been said and done.
I think many on the side of Conservatism have some kind of belief that they are “Divinely Ordained” to rule and that this belief may be rooted in their religious orientation.
If that is true, then there is also the very real possibility that Conservatism may have presented Americans with their first ever “Religious” Political Parties.
If that is true, the concept of Conservatism in America may have become a religion unto itself. This would be a concept that tends to be foreign to the American Ideal– an ideal that traditionally has embraced separation of church and state.
But I also think that Democrat, Liberal and Progressive government is firmly established as the preferred form of government in the minds of most of the voters and this is not about to change to any appreciable degree just because some of the opposition works their tails off to spin, fabricate, invent and propagandize otherwise.
I have a lot of trolls calling me all kinds of nasty names and telling me how off base and stupid and mis-informed and mis-leading I can be with my blog, but I guess that is the nature of the beast. I just delete most of these because they add nothing positive to the conversation.
The intensity of the banter from the opposition is encouraging because the more noise they make, the more I can believe they are running scared and becoming more and more defensive. This, to me, is a sign of their weakness, the weakness of their arguments and the fact that America agrees with my assessment in this matter.
I definitely look forward to a Democrat Victory in 2012 because I have, as yet, seen absolutely nothing from The Right Wing that convinces me of their ability to lead the country. After those recent candied-date “Debates,” I get a sense that the rest of the country might tend to agree with me on that point as well.
Is that going to shut the opposition up?
Not in my opinion. My opinion is that the closer some errant ideology like that comes to the day of inevitable defeat, the louder the raging and the ranting will become.
But I also think that all their noise will avail them absolutely no advantage.
Yes, Popular Democracy can work in America especially if it can be set on that same dependable Liberal Foundation that has sustained it since the day of the Founding Fathers.
But I must point out that there is a difference between “Popular” Democracy and “Populist” Democracy.
“Populist” Democracy tends to be “Pure” Democracy and that cannot work in a country as big and complex as the United States. That is why we have a “Representative” form of Democracy. We do not make all the decisions that affect us. We elect Representatives who we trust to make the decisions for us.
Some of the new revolutionists on the dark side of Conservatism would have us change all that and try to run the country on the basis of a pure Populist Democracy and that cannot work because of the vast diversification of our cultures.
America is just fine the way She is and how She has been since Her Founding. We don’t need all the radical changes being pushed by some disgruntled complainers from the Far Right Fringe. All we really have to do is learn to work together again like we once did a long time ago.
