The Social Good Summit which began on Saturday, “kicked off a phenomenal conversation about how technology and social media can change the world.”  The 2012 Summit, an important collaboration of social media, corporations, and other social good advocates, is  sponsored by Mashable92nd Street Y, theUnited Nations FoundationEricsson, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. On opening day, the summit officially started with a special video message from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and then was followed by an impressive list of interviews with experts on topics ranging from The State of Social Good; The World in 2015: Millenium Development Goals; How Technology Can Impact Sexual & Reproductive Rights; Unleashing The Power Of Open Innovation In Government; to Ocean Conservation In The Digital Age; to How Google Earth is Changing the World; Project Diaspora: Africa’s Technology Renaissance; The Future Is Broadband; How Millennials Will Save The World; Save the Children: Every Beat Matters and so much more. I took copious notes and photos and will share more with you in the coming weeks. We had a wonderful surprise visit from Peter Gabriel and other fantastic visitors are expected throughout the weekend and on Monday.

A key goal of the summit is to encourage/increase global digital activism and, so far, it has been quite effective.  Over 200 meet-ups in 100 countries are participating in this event through their own grass roots efforts and conversations. We got to see and hear about a number of them and it will continue throughout the weekend; culminating in a huge global conversation on Monday. On Saturday morning, I met one of my favorite blog friends and we were excited to connect in person. I will share more on that later. If you are a blogger and would love to attend, I’d encourage you to do so. The programstarts on Sunday at 1pm. More below!

“Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other’s welfare, social justice can never be attained.” Helen Keller

Personally, I believe that social good is a universal responsibility. We can all do our bit to share our goodwill, our knowledge and skills to help each other succeed. Social good is a key way to keep global peace alive and help others thrive. With the continued growth of social media, we can use digital tools to make those connections immediate and effective. Join in, tell your friends to join in on livestream and help make this incredible conversation a success.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Have a spectacular weekend ahead! You are already a light on the path. What are your thoughts? Do you have socially responsible organizations you support? Where does your information come from? What expectations do they hold for you? What insights could you share with others? Do share! Thank you.

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track with reading and responding to your blogs; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience!

Positive Motivation Tip: We share our good will and skills to help each other succeed. Social good is everyone’s responsibility and each can lend a hand. Connect!
