June is Lane Courtesy Month

Two Thoughts for Tuesday My first thought for today concerns the creation of a new observance for the Month of June.  I live to keep you abreast of all the national observances that you might have managed to overlook. June is now "Lane Courtesy Month". Who knew?? Had I not been "sort of" listening to the Today Show when somebody mentioned this, I would have been totally unaware.  So, of course, me being me, I  had to look up the what, where, why and whatever associated with ...

Piglet is Spitting Feathers!

A year or so ago we went to a brilliant Italian restaurant in a seaside town near Portimão, in the Algarve. The staff were efficient and friendly, the pasta was perfect, the sauce delicious and the desserts outstanding! Even the decor and ambience were welcoming, so we vowed to return next time we were in the area. We returned today, as promised, and the restaurant was empty. Strange, because many of the other places we’d passed on the way were quite ...

Reflections: Changes & A Blog Hop…

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.” Helen Keller Reflections: Changes & A Blog Hop... Going with the flow... We often talk about change and how change is good… Yes, it is up to a point, and then we must make sure to not let the stress and petty annoyances of change get to us… We are going through many changes in ...

Vegan Mujadara–Lentils, Rice and Onions

It is sooo cold! Like a lot of people we are enduring a major cold snap. All I have wanted to do for the last week is curl up in front of the fire, read and eat hot heavy food. Never mind salad, exercise or actually trying to think. I have been craving lentils. Don’t know if it is the protein or the iron my body wants, but whatever it is, I have been fixated on lentils. There is nothing quite ...

An Empty Cocoon

Nearly two weeks ago my mother fell down the stairs. She was staying with my older sister Vicki while my younger sister Sheri, her primary caretaker was out of town. Mom taking a nose dive down the stairs was Vickis biggest concern. Something she worried about every time mom stayed at her house. The agreement was that if mom woke in the night she’d call out to Vicki so she could help her navigate the dark safely. This was standard middle ...

Flowers on the moon…

Not yet, but it’s coming! Image Credit: NASA In 2015 scientists are planning on sending some seeds to the moon to study the germination of plants in lunar gravity & radiation on the moon. They will be creating a self contained habitat and attempting to grow basil, turnips and arabidopsis (a small flowering weed from the mustard family). So, You Want to Write Fiction

We All Get There Do you know what it takes to write fiction? Writing it down is the magic that sets everything into motion.  WRITE, WRITE, and WRITE, is the mantra  I have gathered from reading various “How To” books. It has been recommended you set a particular time daily to write. ”Force yourself to stick to a schedule.” is a quote out of Writing Fiction by Gotham Writer’s Workshop.   I personally write when I want to.  I do write something everyday, but ...

Botanically Inspired

Design inspiration can come from anywhere, but most often it comes from what we see. And this time of year, I see flowers everywhere! From lush roses to tranquil lilies, inspiration for beautiful design abounds. Nature has always inspired me and I’m guessing I’m not alone. So let’s have a little fun! Take a look at these gorgeous rooms and see if you agree with the flowers that I think inspired them. The Sunflower. With its maple and black cabinetry and warm yellow ...

Fat Cats Baffled By Poor People With Cell Phones!

Lonely Streets I am glad there are so many lucky people who have never had to entertain the idea of getting their next meal from a restaurant dumpster. This kind of stuff just isn't supposed to happen in America! I also get kind of - - - irritated - - - sometimes when I hear some pampered, over-fed fat cat Right Wing types complaining about poor people who have cell phones because these fortunate consider cell phones to be "Luxuries" and the poor ...

Grant me the ability to be alone,
May it be my custom to go outdoors each day
among the trees and grasses
among all growing things
and there may I be alone,
and enter into prayer
to talk with the one
that I belong to.
Rabbi Nachman of Bratzlav

Every time I take a nature walk, I look around and see so many beautiful trees looking back at me. They stand there in all their majesty, beckoning me to come closer, to pay attention to their silent dignity and to honor their resiliency. I see so many that I felt this post should be a sort of homage to the trees that welcome me on my walks around the neighborhood.

“One is wise to cultivate the tree that bears fruit in our soul.” Henry David Thoreau

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.” William Blake

I seem to have a rapport with a particular tree. Every time I walk by it, the sun shines on it in an unusual way… But today when I went to capture it, the sun disappeared and all that was left was the tree, me… and the beauty of nature around the beautiful tree…I will go back another day, at sunset and see if the tree will let me capture and share what ethereal beauty it has shown me… Do we all see something in trees? Come back for more below.

“Except during the nine months before he draws his first breath no man manages his affairs as well as a tree does.” George Bernard Shaw

“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” Robert H. Schuller

Sometimes, what I see are shrubs, standing bold and tall, keening to be trees. And then there are decorated trees; city trees made to whore their wares during the holidays or perhaps decorated to please us … as if nature’s natural jewels aren’t enough. They are pretty too but I wonder how they feel. What would they say if they could speak?  “Look at me, all blinged and tricked out… See how gloriously I shine. These lights are hot, and any day soon, my number will be up. Do you still love me?” Yes, we do. Do we ever feel the call of nature? Do we ever stop to see the beauty around us?  If we paused for a moment, and looked around us, we might hear the call and see what secret beckons us in the trees.

What are your thoughts? What do you see in trees? Do you every feel the call of nature? Do you make time to see the beauty around you? What do you see?

Do share! Thank you.
