Surreal Liquid Flowers

At first glance, those photos look like a computer manipulation, some kind of 3D modeling. Or maybe blown glass pieces. So it may surprise you to find out these surreal 3D images were created by the talented photographer, Jack Long. These photographs are part of a series titled “Vessels and Blooms,” where he creates flowers by combining paint splashes with high speed photography. He does not use Photoshop to make composite images. In fact, each photo was captured a single splash ...

We Need More Than Ourselves

I spent most of my Sundays growing up as a kid being dragged to some kind of charismatic church; tent meeting or guest-preacher service. Mostly I was bored. Often I would sleep under the seats. Sometimes I’d smuggle in Matchbox cars and drive them along the curvey armrests of the pews. And other times I would hear. Even as a child, I remember hearing the beautiful music that was elevated by all the voices singing together. In particular, there was a ...

Baby, Birth, Delivery – Our Newborn Son Has Arrived!!!

After nearly 42 weeks of pregnancy, my wife had a scheduled Casearean section this morning at 9:30am. The surgery lasted less than two hours and it was completely complication-free and uneventful. Except for the fact that at 10:08am, the newest addition to our family – Salvatore (Tor) James Constantino, T.J. for short – entered our world. My wife is doing great and is with our newborn son as I write this. The early steer from the medical team is that she’ll have ...

Olly Olly in Come Free!

Playing hide and seek as a kid I remember the shot of excitement…. and the needling fear that I felt, being “out there” cowering in the suspicious shadows of dusk ….and hearing the slappy footsteps of my opponent hitting the pavement hard, like applause, as I tried to remain invisible and silent. Close calls inspired boldness, as I inched closer to the light pole that was “home base,” mocking the blindness of my opponent with my muted giggles, and grinning like ...

Village Park Eco Home

Green building, or sustainable construction, is more than environmentally responsible. It’s fiscally smart. Simply put, eco-friendly designed buildings cost less to operate. That’s why we’re so excited to be on the design team for the Village Park Eco Home, a contemporary hill country home about to be constructed in Highland Village, Texas. The home is being built to answer the question, “What’s next in high-performance home construction?” And the answers are cutting edge! It’s an exciting project in green construction, being built with ...

My First Movie: Men Buy...Women shop

While you're running about hitting all the Memorial Day sales this weekend, here's a little video to keep in mind. It's a mini-movie I made about the buying differences between men and women. I may start a series of these vignettes called "Wedded Bliss-Tors" - that looks at the blisters couples incur on their way to marriage bliss. Let me know if you like this first installment!

Omniscient Soul Mate

Closing your eyes for what seems like a moment, you awaken to find that you’ve been transported… carried across a timeless threshold and placed in the arms of an embracing light. This white-hot love, pulsing with the intensity of a thousand suns, slices through the tender folds of your failing heart, releasing your captive soul from its fleshy cage. You surrender, smitten, oblivious to the waning world as it loosens its boney grip from your life. “Where am I?” You ask, timidly ...

Two Reasons I Love Being a Dad

Our youngest laid out her outfit...with a note.... In case you can’t guess the two reasons why I love being a dad – I’ll give you a hint. One reason just turned 8-years old and the other is 10-years old. Whenever they ask which of them I love more (as kids sometimes do), I tell them that they’re both so special and unique – that I love them differently. I give them the example that my favorite all-time dessert is Chocolate Trifle – if ...

Pretend not

From 10/ 31  The good prevails

So now that you vote for the smart alternatitive guaranteed to make bad disappear and to make enlightened democracy the order of the day …. We all feel better and know that we had the choice to build a better society peopled by more better thinkers and saps.

The fire and ice will be done and the descent into the dregs of human endeavor will continue.

Heroes will not emerge.

Guts will not show themselves.

Character and deliberation will continue to be frowned upon.

False issues built on false premise will continue to suck up all available air.

Ignorant dolts will seize upon discord and unease as they have always done to wrather the rabble and look for good avenues of hate and prime paths to power and the whip hand.

Civilization and its discontents will be left to hand wringers and yelpers with no fight and the world will be made safe for more and more stools and tools and fools.

The forearm shiv and the steel booted stomp will always rule the day.

Pretend not.
