I guess it is very commendable that some communities want their schools to teach good, solid Moral Christian Values and to refrain from filling their children’s heads with such worldly notions as “Evolution” and all that other useless “Science” stuff.
That is a very commendable ambition and it is an ambition that I have noted has been very popular among a lot of Right Leaning Conservatives – - – particularly those with deep religious traditions and feelings about how things ought to be – - – whether they are the way things should be or not.
All the complaining about “Failing” Public Education and all the harping about changing from Public Education to Vouchers which will allow choices in educational opportunities seems to have led to a proliferation of Christianized Privatized Schools in some cases where the students are prepared for almost everything except making it in a competitive world.
In other words, many of the students in some of these so-called “Private Christian Schools” aren’t measuring up to the standards Society requires to consider them as being really properly “Educated.” or as qualified for higher education or, in some cases, even becoming employed.
In other words, some of these students are learning the advantages of praying but they aren’t necessarily learning too much of anything that might help them pass a State Proficiency Test or that might help them get a job in some industry where basic knowledge of Science would be an asset – - – or a strict requirement.
A lot of so-called “Christian” schools don’t necessarily teach “Evolution” for example and perhaps even some of their “Textbooks” may have been “Revised” to give a more “Biblical” slant to a lot of school curriculum items and which have, for one reason or another, kind of ignored things that the whole rest of the world accepts as fact – - – and this is reportedly causing a few problems for the students who have been exposed to this sort of effort to remake the Educational System.
I have the opinion that a lot of this stuff is simple brain wash.
I have often wondered how many “Home Schooled” children or those who have been placed in these privatized “Christian” Schools would have to do a lot of Post Graduate work to catch up with the rest of the world so they would have a chance of actually getting a job in the real world and earning a living.
Now I guess the chickens are coming home to roost in some areas of the country as some of these “Schools” are discovering that their graduates cannot compete with much success in the real world.
Public Education might not be looking so bad after all.
I received my education in the Public School System and it didn’t hurt me a bit. It just gave me a well-rounded outlook and helped me understand that there are other people out there who may not think or do things exactly the same way I do and that is alright.
