Sunflower Festivals from Around the World

The sunflower is such a bright, happy flower, bringing smiles and joy to the young and the young at heart. It’s a popular summertime flower. So popular that there are many festivals around the world celebrating its beauty and vibrancy! Here is a look at some of sunflower festivals from around the world.

Sunflower Festival in Zama, Japan

In Zama, from late July through August, you can see more than a half a million sunflowers on display throughout the city. The festival showcases 30 different types of sunflowers. Along with music and entertainment, sunflower related products, like sunflower pasta, sunflower beer and sunflower seeds can be brought during the festival.

Altona Sunflower Festival in Manitoba, Canada

It’s one of Manitoba’s popular summertime festivals, having been around since 1964. The festival traditionally takes place during the last weekend in July. Visitors can look forward to live music, a legends car show, a “Sunflower Queen” pageant, farmer’s market and more!

Sundridge Sunflower Festival, Ontario, Canada

Since the sunflower is the official flower of Sundridge, it is fitting to have a sunflower festival in this popular summer destination spot. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque lakeside setting during the festival, which takes place during the first weekend in August. Visitors and residents can look forward to live music, an outdoor movie, street market, boat races and more!

Sunflower Farm Festival in Georgia, USA

Held in the first week of July, this festival takes place in a beautiful 15 acre sunflower field. Live music, artist market, and tractor parade are some of the events that visitors can look forward to. There are lots of activities to keep the kids entertained! During the festival, visitors can cut their own sunflowers to take home.

International Sunflower Festival in Frankfort, Ohio, USA

The city of Frankfort has been putting on the sunflower festival for over 10 years and is still going strong. This festival is held during the Labor Day long weekend in September. A car show, parade, pageant, music and flower show are just some of the events that visitors can look forward to!

Akeno Sunflower Festival, Hokudo City, Japan

The Akeno Sunflower takes place during July and August. Visitors will be treated to a spectacular sight of 600 000 sunflowers surrounded by majestic mountains. Sunflowers are perfect for this Japanese city, which gets the most sunshine in Japan. Festival events include photo contests and outdoor markets.

Taebaek Sunflower Festival in Korea

Guwau Village in Taebaek, Gangwon-do plays host to the popular Sunflower Festival. Held month long from the last week of July to August, flower fanatics can visit the 148 Acre sunflower field to see the bright, colourful flowers. As well, visitors can enjoy an art exhibition, petting zoo, concerts, and nature films.
