At first glance, those photos look like a computer manipulation, some kind of 3D modeling. Or maybe blown glass pieces. So it may surprise you to find out these surreal 3D images were created by the talented photographer, Jack Long.
These photographs are part of a series titled “Vessels and Blooms,” where he creates flowers by combining paint splashes with high speed photography. He does not use Photoshop to make composite images. In fact, each photo was captured a single splash event, as a single exposure! This is no easy feat! These images were the results of countless hours planning and experimenting with the camera to get the exposure just right.
Impressively, he is able to create flower pots, blooming flowers and leaves with nothing more than just a few drops of coloured liquid. He enjoys working with liquids and using colours to create these unique masterpieces. Each one as playful and whimsical as the next.
Long has been a photographer for over 30 years and has been working with high-speed photography for some time now and wanted to take his photography to the next level. To see more of his work, you can visit him at 500px or Flickr.

I love flowers! I enjoy growing them, learning about them and I love creating bouquets of freshly cut flowers. In our climate where it’s winter most of the time the growing season is way to short, so I have started this blog to get my fix all winter!
