Warning—Sad Picture Alert

Crying Carp

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!   My brother, Mark, sent around a bunch of fish pictures last night.  He has an enviable job –is a wildlife biologist extraordinaire and lives his life among the fishes some days.   Yesterday  he sent a group of pictures around to the family, as promised, of some great specimens of fishies that he works with.  Surprised me by putting this sad looking fishy in the bunch with the following explanation:

The “crying carp” is a dramatic example of a viral infection we occasionally see on Lake Havasu, which causes bloating, and distended eyes.  It is pretty disgusting, and this particular specimen was so advanced in the disease that our fingers poked through its skin and into the body. while we were handling it.  It is a testament to the toughness of carp that the thing swam away, vigorously, when we released it…

Well, thanks, Mark, but it made me incredibly sad to see that picture last night.  I emailed him and told him to stop with the sad pictures already.  I am hormonal and can’t take it.   This morning I logged on and found this response:

Everyone around here simply LOVED the photo of the crying carp!  I
could tell you more stories about the inflicted carp, but I won’t,
because they might taint your dreams…
