Strictly My Opinion
I remember something I heard a few years back and I can’t remember if I actually heard it or if someone just told me about it. But, it struck me funny at the time.
I heard that then President Reagan (Ronnie) said to someone, something like the following: ”Homeless in America? You mean we have homeless in America?” (My quote, folks, not his.)
Well, here it is, the year 2011, and I am just now learning that there are “Gay” Conservatives in America.
I cannot help but wonder how that works. So, I did the only thing I know how to do. I turned to Wikipedia.
Wikipedia tells me that Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender conservatism refers to those who are organized into a movement and who embrace the ideology of conservatism within an LGBT context. The term, “Gay Conservative” might also be applied to a lesbian or gay person who holds conservative political views.
This is confusing to me because I have always understood the “Conservatives” to oppose Gay Marriage and/or Gay Rights of almost any kind.
In fact, I have always believed the more socially conservative of the Right Wing Extremists to be diametrically opposed to anything the Gay Community might want, need or expect from a Democracy such as America.
If I am not mistaken, it has been the Right Wing Extremers who have always strongly opposed any effort at any kind of LBGT initiative.
And yet, I am now supposed to believe that there are “Gay Conservatives?” It doesn’t make sense to me.
If I were a mouse, would I be prone to associate with a bunch of cats? Would I, in fact, try to stop squeaking and try my hand at meowing?
I think there is something wrong with either my perceptions or someone Else’s definitions here, folks!
I guess if I were Gay and Conservative, I might have a problem dealing with the Conservative claim to “Christianity.”
Isn’t it the Conservative interpretation of “Christianity” that would specifically prohibit me from being “Gay” in the first place?
Therefore, a new question arises: “Can one be Gay, Conservative and Christian all at the same time?
Is there an “Alternative” interpretation of socially conservative “Christianity” that accepts Gay persons? Or, is it a “Christianity” entire and complete unto itself?
Is the question even proper to ask or to explore?
Why would a group of citizens with a unique orientation even consider aligning themselves with an organization that is known for maligning them?
Is there anyone out there who can answer this for me?
Your comments are welcome.
You see, folks…I learn something new every day. But, there is a short circuit in my head over this one right now. I cannot wrap my noggin around it yet.
In the opinion of all my Readers out there in Blog Land, would a person who considers himself or herself as a “Gay Conservative” actually vote for a Presidential candidate who has made a public stand against supporting gay rights or initiatives?

My mind is equally baffled. I have a conservative friend who is taking advantage of welfare while she is attending school on a federal grant. I scratch my head at this too.
I know people who claim to be staunch conservatives who are the first in line for Federally Supported Assistance when things get tough. When you ask them about the disconnect between their mouth and their needs, they just clam up on you. Look at those governors in the southern states when Katrina came along. Prior to the Hurricane they weren’t about to take any of the government’s “Filthy” handouts. After the Hurricane everyone of them screamed long and loud about why The Fed was taking so long to come to their assistance. I get the impression sometimes that if the Right Wing Extremeists do finally get rid of all the Fed Social Safety Nets, they will be screaming to high heaven to get some kind of assistance if their little fantasy world falls apart on them… but it won’t be there. Then what? But they don’t listen to reason. They are people of Faith. “Gawd” will take care of them somehow. Right! Some of them do tend to be a little hypocritical in my viewpoint.
