OPINION
I cannot help but wonder if all the good, decent, honest, hard-working Americans who have been so loyal and supportive of some Conservative party over the years have any idea of how they can no longer always count on that loyalty being repaid?
I know that is a strong suggestion for someone like me to be making, especially since I am a died-in-the-wool Registered Democrat with no especially strong love for The currently-popular forms of American Conservatism.
But my Dad was a staunch Republican and so was I until I finally woke up to the fact that because I was not rich they never seemed to care about me at all and when I got into financial trouble there wasn’t one of them to be found anywhere at all.
When I declared bankruptcy in 1978, I discovered what Right Wingers mean when they talk about the need for self-reliance. To me it suddenly meant that I was responsible for whatever happened to me and I was going to be expected to sink or swim on my own without any sympathy or help from my so-called Conservative “Friends.”
This has not only been my personal experience, but I have watched a lot of people get their hopes and dreams dashed and their hearts broken by placing their faith in Conservative Idealism and the empty promises of their Ideological illusions.
As long as these deluded souls are in Hog Heaven everything hums along nicely and everything seems as confident and secure as it can be. But when there is a bump in the road, these faithful are abandoned to fend for themselves. That has been my experience and that has been the experience of too many really good people I have known and loved.
The very Righties that some of these people had trusted literally threw them to the wolves in times of distress and that seems to me to be a distinguishing characteristic of this particular beast.
I want to know where the loyalty is to their constituents when they declare in front of the whole world that their primary governing objective is to obstruct and defeat a sitting President rather than tackling the problems facing Americans in the worst economic downturn since The Great Depression?
Why would they not look to the needs of the many people who depend on their leadership and make solving the nation’s problems a greater priority than their apparent obsession to unseat The President? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
